Farrah Hersh Q's 7/12

Nancy Sommers Article
How can we help students revise and rewrite? Are there any methods/steps we can teach them? Do we need to first start out with a definition of what it means to revise?

Wendy Bishop Article
Has grammar fallen off because of the computer? We have spelling and grammar check at our fingertips. Or is it because we don't write like we used to? We're tweeters and text messaging more chatty, and with chatty comes slang, and quickness and maybe carelessness.

    1. Hey, Farrah
To address your second question, I think spell/grammar checks certainly give us more leeway when it comes to finding our mistakes, and using things like twitter can train us to not worry so much about grammar, so we may develop bad habits. But I would say that it has always been a challenge to use grammar effectively, because language always morphs when existing in real life contexts. I'd also say that word processors while providing convenience, aren't training us to use grammar in clever or rhetorical ways, so I'd say grammar is still very important when it comes to certain things. But yeah in daily life, it's pretty much out the window, haha
