Rife Questions - Liz

1) Part of our jobs as writing instructors is to help students understand and meet expectations of many diverse rhetorical situations as suggested in Martine Courant Rife's "The fair use doctrine: History, application, and implications for (new media) writing teachers." These writing experiences can and should be situated in the Composition classroom, and Rife gives specific examples of what this can look like (syllabus policies). In what other ways can you apply concepts of fair use in your classroom? What do you plan to use specifically from this article?

2) Consider the following lines offered by Rife: "Fluency is encouraged if students can find or obtain licensing information and use policies but at the same time understand their rights to fair use" (171). Aside from understanding fair use, what other literacies will you impart on your students in our new digital age?
