Pat Questions for July 3

1.     In Yancey’s article, she states that “in contrast to the development of a writing public, the classroom writer is not a member of a collaborative group with a common project linked to the world at large and delivered in multiple genres and media, but a singular person writing over and over again- to the teacher” (310).  Since most students will have experiences in multimodal writing as members of the new writing public, how can we as teachers of comp. use technology and screen literacy in order to link a student’s classroom writing experience with the outside world?


2.     Selfe, while discussing computer-based communication facilities, mentions that “when confronted and addressed in these complicated and often contradictory contexts, technology and technological issues become connected with social issues, human values, and material conditions- rather than naturalized and separated from such experiences” (433). Have you ever experienced, in either a classroom or digital studio/writing center, what Selfe describes where issues of technology are linked to the Humanities and social issues?
