Michael Taylor 7/24

Elbow talks about how important it is to get students to "trust [their] instincts or hungers." Is free writing an effective way to do this? And, if this is what we really want students to do, is there a way to make this part of a grade?

Of the teacher responses in Straub's piece, which do you think is the best model for you? Why?

  1. Hey Michael,

    For your second question, I probably preferred response 4, though they all had aspects I liked. Response 4, starts with the positive aspects of the paper but then moves towards explaining the teacher's reaction as a reader, by pointing out his/her bewilderment over certain genre shifts. I like how the teacher makes a prescriptive suggestion at the end so that the student will have some idea of how he/she might move forward.
