1. In relation to Dirk’s essay on navigating
genres, what do you think the relationship is (if there is one) between genre
and form as we know it today? Compare this to the prior thoughts on genre and
form.
2.
Going off the Devitt article, what do you think
is the connection between genre and rhetorical situation? Also, do you think
the 2135 P3 sets students up well to explore situations through different
genres?
Hay Kay Kay, (sorry)
ReplyDeleteTo answer your 1st question I think it's pretty difficult to have a unified understanding of genre. It's really tangled up because we don't want genre to determine form, yet form often determines content, and often content is what determines genre. And all vice versa. When I was young, I personally understood genre as a means of achieving convenience and organization, and I still think that now, but that it's more limiting, and kinda not even a thing, more of a societal construct. Honestly have we gone to far with our understanding of genre?? Would GOD really want this????
