What are some of the activities that you would introduce to make students inquire into the rhetorical design of a genre and use their knowledge to challenge genre for the purposes of social action/intervention?

1. My goal in asking students to make portfolios would be to encourage reflection and metacognition. Essentially, I would want students to craft some kind of narrative about how they developed as writers over the course of the semester, considering especially the challenges they faced and the strategies they've adopted to address them. So, for me, I would not just average the grades of all the pieces in the portfolio, but I would also consider a reflection statement that I would ask students to include in the portfolio, in which they would be asked to consider the things mentioned above.
