David Lowrey 7/3 questions

          1. In the Tobin article Tobin outlines several different metaphors through which a composition class can be understood. Which metaphor did you find best suited to your style of teaching? Think back on your experiences as an undergrad, what professors did you find to be the most effective communicators? What metaphor would best describe their class? Are there any metaphors you think would be more or less apt depending on the situation? If so, which situations?

      2. Yancey mentions how first-year composition teachers often view themselves as gatekeepers between high school and college. Yancey suggests shifting that view to that of a gateway into college and life at large. Which view do you prefer, that of gatekeeping or gateway? Do you think there is a way to reconcile these two views into a single paradigm for the first-year composition class?
