What are the potential consequences of students being taught to master certain kinds of genres rather than being taught genre awareness? What can we do to shift students’ understanding of genre?
Dirk makes four recommendations on how to consider the rhetorical effectiveness of one’s writing: learn the goal for the writing situation, learn about the situation (purpose, audience, etc.), research the genre, and ask questions. How do you see yourself incorporating some or all of these suggestions in your classroom?
